News search from Microsoft

Microsoft has launched a beta version of a service called MSNBC Newsbot. The company is pitching the product as an experimental, automated news service. Like Google News, it examines stories from more than 4,800 English-language news outlets. Newsbot is built on advanced computer algorithms to determine which stories and photos are most relevant, most popular, and to recommend stories to individual readers based on their interests. Microsoft’s longer-term plans include a broader search technology that would let people search Web sites, messages, and databases.
